South Holland Lions was grateful to the support of our community as we were able to make a donation through  Lions International's to the fight against measles

  • 400 people still die every day because of measles, most of them children
  • Measles can cause severe complications, including brain damage, hearing loss and blindness
  • Lions fight measles by providing physical support through social mobilization and advocacy
  • LCIF and Lions have promised to raise US$30 million by 2017 in support of measles vaccination around the world. When we reach that goal, Gavi’s matching fund will provide an additional US$30 million, for a total of US$60 million!
  • The safe and effective measles vaccine costs only about US$1

The South Holland Lions club voted to make a donation of $2000 donation to the effort at our September meeting. An anonymous South Holland Lion matched the club's donation. Our total local donation was further matched by the Lion's International program making leveraging our club's donation to $8000. If you would like to donate to our effort contact a South Holland Lion or you may contribute through paypal using your paypal account or credit card at our donations page on the link below on this page of our website. Our anonymous South Holland Lion indicated he will match contributions as he is able. Gavi will match any donations that are made up to $30 million!

South Holland Lions also voted to make a donation to the Hurricane Harvey effort at our September meeting.

Again we are very thankful to our local community for your assistance in our humanitarian efforts.

HISTORY and MISSION STATEMENT

The South Holland Lions Club was chartered October 16, 1946, by 31 South Holland residents with the Lansing Lions Club being the sponsoring club. We are a member of District 1-A, known as the "Mother" District because the Lions International Headquarters in Oak Brook is located within the boundaries of the District.

The focus of the South Holland Lions Club is to support the South Holland community foremost, as well as the projects of Lions Club International and our local District 1-A. We will maintain and publicly support the moral values upon which the South Holland community was founded, unite with our fellow Lions members to promote brotherhood through the sharing of ideas and services and promote the growth of the South Holland Lions Club.

Today, seven out of every ten blind adults are unemployed. For Deaf-Blind people, the unemployment number climbs to over 80% and for people with multiple disabilities over 90%. One-third of all blind people live in poverty.

The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. is among the largest employers of blind people and the foremost employer of Deaf-Blind people in the United States.

While our manufacturing operations, wages, and benefits are self-funded we face a funding gap in providing the mission-related costs crucial to giving blind individuals the support and skills to succeed.
