Sevice Projects

Fellow South Holland Lions,

One of our focuses this year is to live up to our motto ‘We Serve’.   The Board met after the monthly meeting last Thursday and talked about ideas where we can get involved in serving.

Frank Knittle came up with the idea of helping the Village work on the new Police Station.  The next day he talked with the Police Station Project manager and we now have our First Service Project.

Here it is:  As you all know the MB Motor bank will be the new Police Station.  They need help in removing wall hung cabinets and countertops.  On Saturday Oct 19, 8:30am – 11:30am please show up at the MB Motor Bank on South Park.  We need only 10 able bodied Lions equipped with muscles (hmmmmmm, for our Lions that’s debatable…;), screw guns, hammers, pry bars, eye protection, etc for this demolition work.

Contact Lion Frank Knittle  no later than Oct 15 if you can serve.  Let’s have a great turnout and start branding the South Holland Lions Club as the Club that serves.

We would like to do at least one service project a month.  Some projects may need just two or three Lions, but all will get recognition with press releases and pictures.  So send me your ideas of how we can serve and we’ll get them going.

Thank you,

- Lion President Don
Donald A. Grimwood

Press Release
For immediate release
Lions Club Candy Days in South Holland

October 11th and 12th, 2013 are Candy Days for the Lions of Illinois.  Candy Day is the premiere fundraiser for the services & programs provided to the hearing & visually impaired in Illinois. This event held throughout the state alone raises over 50% of the total operating funds for the Lions of Illinois Foundation (LIF). Through these donations the LIF is able to serve in excess of 18,000 men, women, & children each year.

Lions and volunteers will be visible throughout the community for Candy Day!  Lions will be giving away rolls of candy and accepting monetary contributions to be used in helping the visually and hearing impaired. It is almost impossible for those who can see and hear normally to fully understand what it is like to be visually or hearing impaired, but they can help through their support of Candy Day.

Mayor Don DeGraff and the village board have proclaimed these two days in South Holland to be Lions Candy Days and offer their support.  Thank you, Mayor and Trustees!

On Friday October 11th please watch for our yellow vested volunteers on the street corners and at local businesses and give them encouragement….and a donation.  We depend on your generous giving to be able to help the visually and hearing impaired.

MARK OCTOBER 11TH ON YOUR CALENDARS AND PUT A FEW EXTRA DOLLARS WITHIN QUICK REACH IN YOUR CAR AS YOU DRIVE AROUND SOUTH HOLLAND. WE HAVE ONLY A FEW SECONDS TO CAPTURE YOUR DONATION AND THAT WOULD HELP EVERYONE!  THANK YOU AND BLESSINGS ON YOU.

He asked, “Do you know there is a sick old lady upstairs?”
